i have a 302 ranger and the trany is bad i am looking to buy a new trany from someone but hes kinda slow and seems to think he knows what hes talking about i need to know if a t150 trany or a c5 out of a jeep will bolt up any suggestions

Why not just get the one you have rebuilt? Honestly that would be the easiest thing to do. Just about any vehicle with a small block ford will have a transmission that will bolt up except the early 289s. The problem is all the other things you will need to change to use that transmission. But to your question, something out of an F150 will bolt to the engine if need be. Jeeps dont use a C5 that I can ever recall. Do you know what transmission you have? If you are going to swap that for a replacement it would be best to find the same one rather than reroute exhaust systems, make driveshafts and so on. I'm going to make a guess that it a C4/C5, C6 or AOD that you have. They can be found for a few hundred bucks but also remember they are going on at least 20-30+ years old. For a few hundred more you can have a rebuild usually with a warranty..just an option to think about.

ok ... yeah the one i have is making a groaning/whistling sound from the front bearing of the trany and i havent put a front axle under it yet it still has the original front end

Matt....who builds you tranny's? Had my latest C4 done by a friend in Altoona...it's awesome!

I do my own transmissions, at one point that was my living. Who's your friend from altoona I may know him?

Josh Oswalt (a wrench at Reliable) is the guy that hooked me up with the tranny guy. His first name is John, not sure of his last name.

if u can use any tranny why are ppl saying that a 94-95 t5 has clearance issues?

I just got one out of a 1980 f150. Its a 4speed with a np208.

I decided to go with a manual transmission, I just dont like to put an automatic into a truck that never had one and I just like driving a manual tranny too.

I'm pretty sure those have a different length input shaft.

I am good friends with a lot of guys at reliable, can't put a picture to josh though being there are a few different shops. If the John you know has a fairmont him and I used to work at the same trans shop at a different points in time (doubting it a recommended shop anymore though).

The '94/'95 Mustang T5 does have a longer input shaft, but when matched with the same year belhousing, it's a non-issue.

The concern comes when attempting to use Tri-Y headers with this trans/belhousing combo.

This belhousing places the clutch fork and starter at a lower angle than a Fox body T5. If you look a tthe face of the bellhousing, you would see the starter and clutch fork at 8O'clock and 5 O'clock, for example, instead of 9 and 3. (just a ballpark exaggeration) This puts the clutch fork and starter where the header tubes want to be (when using Tri-Ys).
Guys have fit those headers with some very minor grinding and fab, though.
