i got my motor in and basicly i just need some headers and ignition. i'm tight on money now so i just wanted to hook up the basic basic ignition there is:icon_rofl:. i was wonderin what i would need. never hooked up an entire ignition b4. would i just need a vaccum distributor and a coil? let me know. the motor came out of a 93 mustang gt. is now carbed..

The duraspark system is pretty simple, cheap and easy to hook up. You will need an ignition box, distributor and coil. A service manual to pretty much any early 80s for will tell you what the wires go to in the ignition box and wire them accordingly into the ranger harness.

I checked out the link, good info. I just found some it hard to read.

You can run a points style distributor fitted with an electronic module, but you'll need to change the cam gear to a steel one. Two wires to hookup.

Just run straight up points ignition. Get a vac advance distributor with a steel gear and a plain jane coil hook up 2 wires and you're done. You could always do what I did and get a DuraSpark 2 distributor, GM HEI 4 pin module and a Ford TFI coil. Hook them all together and you've got a great ignition that has a 60KV spark without a rev limiter.
