300 inline 6

Jeep 4.0 I6 would probably fit......it be an interesting swap.

If Jim said there is 1.5" room between the 300 6 and the rad, you might look at using an electric pusher fan in front of the radiator. That might solve your space problem.

That is an inch an a half between the nose of the water pump and the STOCK RANGER RAD.

The 4.9 needs a bigger radiator that will take up that space.

Well I'm gonna start looking for an im engine today I'm gonna look for engine trans and transfer case all in one go I think I want the 4 speed Amanda run duel transfer cases it will be a couple weeks maybe.a month before I start the build but ill start a build thred when I do I have this POS Chevy luv parked in the way right now so I gotta fix it before I can start roping and tearing into my ranger

the 302 is overrated and under torqued.

Break from tradition and leave the Mustang stuff on the shelf. A standard common roller 302 from a big late 80'scar is rated something like 280 lb-ft at 2500... pretty respectable for its footprint.

I have absolutely no complaints about the powerband of my 302. It was much more of a brawler down low with the standard cam and E6 heads. With an HO cam and E7's it is really wanting to get serious about where I naturally start backing off the throttle (3K) Still not bad at all down low too.

With its factory long water pump it sits with 1/2" between the pulley and the two row Explorer radiator.

I've not had good luck with or known anyone that had good luck with the 300 therefore I wouldn't give you 15 cents for one. However the people that like 300's absolutely love them, they are more fanatical about their junk than Jeep freaks.

I would pay $.15 all day long for them, about four of them is worth $200 for scrap. :icon_thumby:

One guy that I used to work with had a '89 '150 5-speed with a 300. He tractor pulled a 1950 John Deere A up to the 7500lb class. I would be running about 60mph in a 55 zone coming home with my tractor in tow and he would pass me every time we met. :shok:

The thing had 170k when he traded it and the original clutch was getting weak. :icon_surprised: The dealer kept it for a parts running truck for a couple years now it is a farmer's beater truck.

I run a onan generator everynight that has a ford 300 on it. Last time I looked it was almost to 10,000 hours and it hasent missed a beat. Also got a mud buggy with a 300 and I beat the piss out of it and it never complains. Gotta love the ford inline 6 series.

only idiots live with the radiator in the stock location and use pusher fans. why would you not want maximum cooling???

lots of room to utilize. open the doors up front

get a fatty24-25x19 radiator and put it into the grill,94 ish 300 with a manual trans and get it awn.

i think the 4.9l is a great motor for toque. Im going to swap one one into my 91 ranger siting on a f250 frame

Lol, someone is calling you Jim again?

Despite my numerous explanations his little French-Canadian brain doesn't seem to be able to understand the concept of a campaign bumper sticker.

well its in his .sig, so it's easy to read that way.......

My name is Eric. I have many other things that I will and do answer to. Jim is not now nor has ever been one. It is a campaign freaking bumper sticker!!!

Do you go around calling your buddy who support Harper in the last election "Stephen" even though his name is Bob just because he has a bumper sticker that says "Elect Stephen Harper"?

um yeah, well, I didn't see your bumper, so I didn't see the sticker either.

simple mistake.

Does anyone know even the first thing about wireing a 4.9 to a 2.8 harness
