what are out there for performance goodies for the 300 6...also how many horses and torque can you get out of these monsters?

idk, but i sure would like to have one in my '83!!! all that low end torque at low rpm's is just what i'm wanting. kinda like my old scout 4 cylinders... everything they had, they put out before they hit 3500 on the tach.

im not sure how much there is for performance. i wouldnt think there is much since they arent built for speed. that being said they werent much for horsepower but have monster torque.

Ofenhouser makes a 4 BBL intake and a header you can get a kit from jegs that has a 4 BBL carb, the offy intake, header, and all the gaskets and hardware to install it, and comp offers a bazillion different cams for it, along with other companies too.

neet...how do you think it would take a turbo....not looking at a street machine....but something for 2wd sled pulls?

Don't know about a turbo... But I know the best way it runs (also the easiest way to get it purring) and the most streetable is in stock form... For pulling I'd probably just stick with a good 1BBL carb, a good can and gears, gears are really what makes or breaks a 300

Where's Rusty when you need him.... he was a wealth of information for the 300 motors. I know there is aftermarket for them (not as much as the 302), but you can do some serious building to them if you know where to look.

Yes this and most likely if you re-build it you will have to bore it at least .30 over and your choice of pistons for compresion and rod lengths for stroke. Low end grunt man, gotta love it.:icon_thumby:

I had a buddy that was a master ford tech tell me that if you were to take the EFI from a newer one and put it on an older block and head you will gain big time hp. I don't think a turbo will do much good cause the motor is big time in low end torque. I had a '86 bronco that I put a 8" lift and 38's on. I had a 4spd with a granny low and 3.08 gears and it had absolutly no problem turning them and off road it crawled like crazy. I love those motors and am really trying to find a older F250 with one for a tow rig. I did find a F350 reg cab dually with one awhile back but didn't have the $$$ at the time.

Truth is... if you want gobs of horsepower dump boat loads of exitable fuel in it with a ton of electricity at just the right time and carbs do that best in a nekid raw way. Want more then race funny cars or rails, ask Don Garlits.
