alright, my engine is almost ready to crap out on me....its a '94 3.0...

if i was to put a 4.0 under the hood, what all would i need? i know its repetitive and has been asked...ive looked, ive got most the part list made. i just want to be absolutely positive...

i want to swap tranny too, cause its the all sucky A4LD....i want to keep 4x4, and electronic 4x4 if absolutely possible...

THanks guys/gals.

Sell your truck and buy a different one with the options you want. IMO There's nothing out of the ordinary about what you'll end up with, I would just sell the truck if you are not happy with it and buy one that's better than what you have. Going to have to find a donor or bunch of donor parts, not sure if there's much money to be saved by going that route. Then you end up with a bunch of left over parts that you'll need to sell to try and recoup costs. I am sure there is somsone out there that would be interested in that truck with a bad motor, are you absolutely sure that it can't be fixed for relitively cheap?

well, the reason i was thinking of this route, was cause there is a 4.0 ranger for sale near me, it was wrecked. but, hit in the rear, bad bed, damaged the frame near the back..

but good motor and tranny.

Well, I suppose if it were cheap enough and you had the time to do it.... What year is the 4.0L Ranger donor?

Pete

That will be a problem. The 96 is an EEC-V engine control system whereas the 94 had EEC-IV. You are talking about a major wiring swap. You can use just the motor and tranny but the wiring harness and computer will need to come out of a 93 or 94 with a 4.0L.

If you swap over everything, Motor, Tranny, Engine compartment wiring, dash and all its wiring, it would work. Dont forget the cats and o2 sensors.

It's all research I did for a swap that never happened into my 2.3 Ranger.

It blew a head gasket before I had everything gathered. I needed a vehicle asap, so I just sold most of that stuff and bought a Mazda p/u with a V6 already in it.
