I have a 3 ft fiberglass cb antenna and a 102 inch whip. Both work great for the once in a while i use my cb in the woods. I got a toolbox mount and put on my aluminum diamond plate box and the 102 inch was flexin the box when it was swinging, but the 3 footer looks kinda gay. Any Idea how to stabilize the box for the 102 incher?:dunno:

how is it secured to your bed?

Mount the 102" whip elsewhere, problem solved, lol

The toolbox is bolted in the bed, I guess it's just thin aluminum. I think I'm gonna sell the 102 incher and just get a five or six foot fiberglass and a smaller spring.

BTW, wat do y'all think looks better, a fiberglass antenna or a LONG whip?

I like fiberglass, but either works for me. You need a mounting plate on your tool box to spread the force from the flexing antenna. A sheet of metal about 12" x 12" bolted at the widest points should really help out. (it would be wise to use thicker sheetmetal than your toolbox). Some people have those little sheetmetal towers on the box. I personally would moun tit to the bumper or the front rail of your bed. I posted the same response for someone else recently, make sure if you go with teh 102" that you have a 3ft section of cord tied to your bumper with a hook on it for securing the antenna. In case of low bridges.

BTW We have a communication section down south for all issues of this sort.

Get rid of the 102 incher and use a 3 or 4 ft fiberglass. Remember, CB's are function over fashion.

:agree:

The reason why I changed from a base load 64" whip to a top load 4 ft fiberglass Firestick. Made all my channels cleaner and the WX band less static. And I get a good range of about 3~5 miles clean.

You can see in the photo where I have mine placed.

I bought the kit from radioshack for 25 bux with the 3 ft, mirror mount, and coax cable. I just put the mirror mount in the center of my toolbox and that small antenna doesn't put any force on it. I'd sell the 102 inch, but don't know how to ship it lol
