I recently got a set of 07+ tail lights to put on my 94 ranger.

yesterday

I got the new lights, and a trailer converter, and it didnt work right. I think it might just be the converter. Me and my buddy had everything wired up perfectly, everything going to the right spot, and it just would not fully work, like we could get the turn signal to work but not the brake, we could get the brake to work but then the turn signal would be suppppper weak and dim as hell. So me and my dad did a continuity test on it and only the runing light wire would work, so im thinking maby its the converter. After dealing with it though i just wanna say screw the converter and try diodes on it and just wire it directly.

today

So i got the diodes wired in and my brakes and turn work. but just not at the same time. When i press the brakes and use a turn signal it dosent flash like it should, it just gets a little dimer then the full powered brake lights. Also it seems to be caueing the opposite side to flicker (only when the brakes are pressed), witch dosent make sense since the diodes shouldnt let the power from the turn signal (witch is wired in after the diode and the diode is faceing the right way) come back to the other light. We thought it was the ground but i cut one of the grounds off and grounded it to the bumper but it was still doing it. Thinking i might need a relay for the turn signal to work with the brake light.

Any one have any input on my problem? I tryed following the write up on this site, but didnt work out. My truck currently isnt undriveable because of this, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Instead of breaking your head over this thing. If you suspect the trailer module you have is bad, just go to wally world and buy another. they're only fifteen bucks here so that should be about five bucks in the states.

I installed one in a truck last week and it performed perfectly.

american currency sucks, its like $16 lol

do what i did.
if u have the trailer lights connector, just splice the wires.
yellow is for one side turn/stop and green is for the other side.
i wired the small filament(running lights) to the existent running lamps wire, so u wont cut it.
then i cutted the brake wire from the bulb socket and i wired the new wire i got from the connector and works fine.
the separate turn, i just removed the bulb.

how did you wire your turn to your brake light? did you use the trailer conector from the write up? or the stock one? Ive been trying the one from the write up.

Today i went and exchanged the trailer converter for a new one (thinking something was wrong with it) wired the new one in and tested the volts im getting through the wires, only ground and my running lights were getting full voltage. The turns were just reading mini amps/volts. And now im stuck at this.

I could either get the trailer converter to work, if someone on here could shed some light on it.

Or im thinking i read up on relays and wire one in and make the diodes work.

i spliced the wires from the trailer connector the truck has under the bumper.
i think someone did it with relays, but since it worked this way, i went easier lol.

the connector the truck has must have a green and a yellow wire. thats the stop/turn signals u need.
cut the wire from the bulb socket that lights the large filament and wire it with either the green or yellow(test to get what side is for each). and thats it.
u have running lamps on the small filament and turn/stop on the large one.

the single turn, i just removed the bulb and works fine. i think its cuz the turn relay gets the load from the trailer connector wires im using.

yeah mine didnt have the stock trailer harness, so i had to go out and buy that hopkins one. I have everything wired up right so i dont know why its not working with the trailer kit. When i took the kit off and tryed diodes it workes fine and lets power come through, but when i have the brake on and use the turn they dont flash, but when i dont have the brakes on they do flash, so that is just a relay. Gonna have to read in to how to do a relay for it i think.

But still wtf the trailer kit should work....

does the trailer kit come wiht a ground cable?
maybe a false ground is messing with it.

it can be done with relays, thats for sure. ull only need to draw a diagram and get a constant 12v source(i think, havent tried to do a diagram, since i didnt had to lol)

yeah the kit comes with a ground wire n everything, somthing in the box of it just isnt working right =/

Could the problem be that im not getting enough volts through the box? I checked my wires b4 the box and im getting 12.4 and through the box im getting mini amps.

can someone point me in the direction of the original thread or writeup for this mod? i want to do this on my motorcycle so i can do a 2 housing setup, vs my 3 housing setup currently...
