i changing from 3.73 to 5.13 and someone told me that i would need a bifferent carrier because of the larger gears i have the factory l/s. could not find anything on the internet about a different carrier. also will i need a new cross pin. thanksin advance

Do yourself a favor and get a 31 spline 8.8 out of a explorer or ranger FX4 and get rid of that pos 7.5. There is no market for that axle and i invision alot of breakage with serious abuse. theres alot of good write ups in the tech library and it'll save you alot of headache down the road. to me its like shinning up a turn when you could just exchange it for a jewel.

yea no reason to polish a turd....get yourself an 8.8

Yeah...dont bother with those gears in a 7.5...youre just asking to blow it up. Also...Even if gears say to get a notched cross pin... DO NOT GET A NOTCHED CROSS PIN. They are known to break. What I did when i installed my 4 56 gears in my 8.8, was gently 'massage' one ring gear tooth, thats all it took to get the original cross pin to slide in. Much stronger, and the tiny amount i had to remove off the ring gear will not have affected it.

to answer the original question, there is no carrier break on the ford 7.5 axle so yes you can fit 5:13 gears in there without changing your original carrier.
the 7.5 is not as weak as some will have you believe but driving style has a lot to do with axle breakage. It also depends to some degree on what motor you have in the vehicle.

The pinion head with 5.13 gears in a 7.5 is pitifully tiny.

Upgrade to the 8.8.

Its only the 2.3 2wd and will only be used at my cabin for mild off road and to get fire wood

What size tires are you planning to put on it?

think you might prefer 4.56 gears? i have those with a Detroit locker in the rear running 31" tires and really like it a lot. probably easier on your 7.5. would make it better if you had to drive it on the road/highway for a beer run or emergency. just my $.02.
