3:73 or 4:10

Ok first off I would like to say holly crap you guys are a wealth of knowledge, I really appreciate the info. Secondly keep y'all's eyes open as this is my first solo build and this could get hairy and I will be needed more info lol

Not to thread Jack but what about 4.10s with 31s and a 2.3?

3.08 and 33s holy crap that's way outta the ball park on the tire and gear chart. I'm surpised it went

Ha, yea. Acceleration was slower (as expected), but I got used to it. I'd always floor it from the start, and surprisingly, the 5R55E held up. No joke, I'm looking back now at my first Ranger, and I'm in awe that it didn't blow up after 100,000 miles. Really. But, I did regular transmission fluid changes.

I also got 23 mpg on the highway with a 2" suspension and 3" body. :icon_surprised:

IIRC the 95 Explorer is undesirable as whole vehicle if you want to lift it because the T-bar brackets are welded to the frame, not riveted.

Adsmo, I couldn't spot anything in the library. But, you're more than likely right.

You're welcome. We're glad to help, and make a build thread in the Projects section when you start your build. We love pics on here. :icon_thumby:

You ARE thread-jacking. :icon_twisted: But, to answer your question, you're good with that combo as well, even for a 2.3.

C'mon man! You've been here long enough to know to where this is: :icon_twisted:

I have a 89 2.9 5 speed 6inch lift 34x9.50 super swampers with 3.73 gearing. Its not the greatest setup out there but it works.

Yea but convenience is a bitch! Lol seriously though would it help with the useless 5th gear?

I have the 3:73 gears

I just have to say the information available on this site is absolutley astounding. And the forum members, administrators, etc are as helpful as one could ask. I found the tire size/gear chart and was pleasantly surprised to find that I have about the best possible setup for my needs, totally by accident, of course. 4.0L with 3.73 gears and 31" tires. Nice to get something right now and then.

What was your MPG with the combo 4:10 and 31's?
I have 4:10 and 30's and it seem i am average 19.5 keeping under 60 mph
I keep wondering what would 3:73 and 30's might net

I have a 88 stx with a 6in and 33s and this is my second vehicle being a manual so I'm not the best and not the worst but anyway I don't know what gears are in it I think 373s but I'm not sure but every time I go to pull out from a dead stop it stalls I have to ride the clutch alittle bit just to pull out would you guys recommend putting a different gear setup in it or what should I do I don't wanna burn the clutch up let me know what you guys think I should do
Thanks,Justin

Ok so learned today my 87 is a stx high rider. Will that have anything to do with the axles

I'd check the door sticker for the axle number then look it up in the axle section of the tech info part of this site. There is a chart which tells you what the truck came with. If the tag on the rear axle is still there, then it will say what size ring gear and the ratio.

I know what is in it I was thinking about swaping the rear axle from my donor into it. Now that ive leared its a high rider im wondering if anything was different on there rear axles

Based on the tire and gear ratio chart in the tech library you'll probably want to look for something in the 4:56 ballpark with 33s.
