i've got a rear with 3.73s in my bronco 2 but the dana 28 still has the factory 3.45's. my buddy is telling me all i have to do is use the ring from the 3.73 setup he had in his old d28 (before he went to 4.10s), he states the pinon is the same. can anyone chime in on this? i dont wanna f my t-case up!

I would say NO! Even if the ring would somehow match the pinion they need to wear in together in order to last; the different wear patterns would destroy each other.

Triple "NO!!!"

Just curious......did your buddy change his pinion when he went to 4.10s? If he did, then he should have a matched set of 3.73s to give you.

No, don't mix and match gears between sets, even the same ratios.

How about NO NO NO and you need to pick better friends who have an IQ of a least a banana....lol

It will work as long as you never use the 4x4.

even RSH says no.
u must get the ring and pinion.
they must be installed as a set.

To answer your question....

NO.

I wonder if I still have a 3.73 complete D-28 pumpkin around here or if it got stolen too.... I used to have a half a dozen of them...

i just dropped one off at the scrapper

even if both pinions have the same number of teeth, the pitch of the teeth on the pinion gear would be different to match the tooth count of the ring gear. and they should always be changed out as a set anyways, even if you just needed a ring gear and you could get a used one of the same tooth count, you'd want the matching pinion to go with it. and even with a matched set of gears, new or used, proper setup is crucial to the gearset lasting. proper rolling torque of the pinion, backlash bewteen ring/pinon, pinion depth/pattern. its not something id want to do. i probly could with the proper tools, but its not a simple r&r like swapping brake rotors out.

Let me know if you do find one. I might have to make arrangements to get it if I can't find and retrieve a viable D-35 chunk soon.

I'll have to look around. I know I had at least two or three left and I know I didn't take any to the scrap yard.

I have two complete 4.10 geared D-28 axles laying around, one has a lockright an the other is open.
