I just changed the heads, lifters and pushrods on my ranger as part of a repair from troubleshooting. Started the engine and it purred like a kitten. Let it warm up then drove it up the street. About 1/4 mile up the road it just died and won't start. Cranks but won't fire. Hasn't ran long enough to throw any codes. Doing a fuel pressure test once my new tester arrives (neighbor lost my old one). I have the heated PCV valve and am wondering it maybe it's going wacko once it heats up? Also apon reassembly there is a plastic tube inside the upper plenum that connects to the inside of the hose going from the plenum to the PCV valve. I'm not sure I have it installed correctly - never seen one before actually. Anyone know what it is and how it would effect my engine?

Fuel, air, spark, compression makes vroom.

You're missing one or more.

Did you check to see which is MIA?

Not since it died. Had a compression issue on cylinders 2 and 3 hence the head swap (gaskets were fine) and after the swap compression was good. Checking fuel pressure this afternoon. Spark is strong but it has a new coil pack wires and plugs, new crank and cam sensors also. Injectors tested well (going by resistance). When you say air what are you meaning specifically? not sure I know how to test air intake volume when an engine doesn't start.

As long as you can breathe while near the truck you can probably check air off the list lol.

Sounds like fuel pump to me. After cranking it, take the cap off the schraeder valve (on the passenger side fuel rail) and depress the stem and it should shoot out up to the hood. Best not to stand over it while doing this!

Literally never.

Side Note: what was actually faulty on the previous heads that ruined compression on cylinders 2 & 3?... just curious...
