3.0 to 4.0 swap

have a 1993 4.0 v6 4x4 & m50d manual would like to install it in my1998 ranger supercab 4x4, it has a 3.0 & a m5od in it now can it be done without going thru any severe changes, the 3.0 has 181000 and its a little tired the 4.0 has 83000

Mechanically, it's pretty straight forward. You'll need to swap the entire engine, trans, exhaust, and wiring harness. Then you get to the fun stuff. The toughest part definitely would be the wiring. You're going from an OBD1 vehicle (your 93), to an OBDII setup in the 98.

Don't know where you are but you might have trouble passing smog if its a requirement.So resale is probably not going to happen.
