3.0 to 4.0 swap

i am planing to do a 3.0 to 4.0 swap in to me 98 ranger. will me dash harness out of my 3.0 work. would i have to change some thing to make the 4.0 work.

For a plug and play swap you need to swap out the entire engine compartment harness from the 4.0 donor vehicle. This harness will plug into the bulkhead and work with the interior/dash wiring.

i thought i read some where that the 3.0 and 4.0 trannys are different and wont bolt up?

You will need a new computer and tranny to go with all that other stuff.

the vehicle wiring is the same.. your going to need the motor, tranny tranny wiring harness, COMPUTER , Maf sensor, and engine wiring.. an everything should plug right in.. i just put a 4.0 from a 92 explorer in my 96 which had a 2.3 an got it all obd II compliant an it runs GREAT!!

what of the speedo cluster

the cluster i have has no tach

do i need to find a cluster with a tach to make this swap work?

u dont necessarily need a tach but there nice to have, u can just listen to the engine revs and know when to shift, or u can buy a tach from autozone
