3.0 to 4.0 SOHC swap

it was told to me today that at a ford dealership a 4.0 sohc was swapped into a 3.0 ranger, 04 edge model 2wd manual transmission w/o having to change the transmission, how true is that? all of my research shows that the 3.0 vulcan only has a compatible bolt pattern w/ a front wheel drive 3.8, does the m50dr1hd trans on the 4.0 sohc hav an interchangeable bellhousing? said all that was involved was the engine and wiring harness/computer setup. im calling it bs but if anyone else has heard or seen this done please let me kno, thank u for ur time and patience.

it would be the fwd 3.0s not the 3.8...that is going to have a ford small block bolt paturn

I don't see it being possible with a RBV transmission. Though I suppose it could be possible with a custom made adaptor or something. Bellhousings are not interchageable. Bolt patterns are totally different between the two engines. If they did add the transmission for a 4.0, yes, only other things to take care of is engine/trans harness and PCM along with a reflash if the vehicle is PATS equipped.

Take him the engine and the wire harness and tell him to make the swap happen. cause I want to see it.
