Ijust bought a 1998 ranger 3.0/at with a blown engine. How difficult would it be to install a 4.0 engine from an Explorer? I have the complete explorer to cannabalize.

It's a good thing

you've got it all...Cause you will need MOST of the donor...not just the engine.

Well, that's good news. I know I will have to use the 4.0 ecu but will I have to also use the complete wiring harness? What else. Thanks for the help and encouragement.

You will need the tranny, exhaust system, wire harness, computer, driveshaft, radiator, all addons with brackets and the rest has escaped me at the moment.

Now for the big fun! I don't know about the 98 but my 94 had the ECU on the opposite side and none of the under hood wiring was compatable. It might be beter on the 98 but if it isn't, you will need to get the underhood wiring for a Ranger or plan on doing lots of splicing.
