3.0 to 3.0 engine swap interchange

Ive got 2000 ranger 2wd 3.0 automatic.The junk yard says only 1999-2001 is the only engine that fits.Am I wrong or will most any 3.0 will work,as long as intakes are changed over.All external accessories should bolt on Right??? Maybe im making more out of this than need be.

The yard books probably look at pure plug and play. Most any ranger 3.0 after 96 will work if you swap the intakes, FEAD, and sensors.
