i have a 94 3.0 automatic and i was wandering what muffler gives me the best/loudest sound. im already thinking to modify or bypass the cat but i dont want it to sound like an import with a hole in the exhaust.

Keep the cat.

If your state allows it and you like to piss off your neighbors like I do, straight pipe it back with 2.25" tube and dump it before the rear tire.

Depending on the material you use it'll effect the tone. Regular exhaust pipe you'd get from the parts store gives it more of a high pitched rasp.

I used .120" wall 2" OD HREW and then up behind the cab into a stack. Very throaty and pissed off. In a good way.

But leave the cat.

i run a 2 1/2" purple horny glasspack and it sounds really aggressive i do drive a five speed and i think it helps cause it pops a lot and sounds pretty wicked it goes from my last cat and exits in front of the passenger wheel and the pipe it all 2 1/4" EMT got more power too :icon_hornsup:

The 3.0 isn't that big of a motor. It's not big at all. It exhales just fine from the factory.

I only redid my exhaust because I hacked 3 feet of frame off and wheel in very dry areas so pipes up the back of the cab seemed like a good and cheap idea.

I'm runnin stock pipes till after the cat, then 2" OD HREW (what my sliders are made of) and then it's 90'd out and 90'd up to continue with 2.5" cheapo exhaust pipe and an angled tip.

It's deafening. I wish I could load an audio clip.

IMO loudness and good sound don't go together... cept alcohol burn dragsters. :D

But yeah a thick straight pipe is what you want... if not you can always go with one of those flowmaster 10 series race mufflers?

whats the best muffler for the 3.0?i was looking at the flowmaster 40 series but what in yalls opnion is a better muffler straight pipe is out of the question. im not looking for any performance gains just looking for a better than stock sound i would just like to swap my old muffler for a different one

cherry bomb vortex, glasspack, cherry bomb extreme. slp loudmouth

youtube some clips and see whatcha like.

personally, id go with a magnaflow. best sound, loud, and mean.

what about just changing my stock muffler to a super 44? and not doing anything else?

ive already had one horrible sounding v6 dont want that again and how much of the pipe will i need to replace

I have a flowmaster 40 series with 3" duals right to the back.. along with a magnaflow cat system I got it sounds great, loud throaty especially for the 3.0L.. cant wait to hear what the V8 sound will be like in the spring :)

MagnaBLOWS on the 3L, it will sound extremely horrible. I had one for almost a year in 1998 then a blow out. I ran the 50 series deltaflow big improvement on the 3L with 2.25 piping from the catback, sounded really good. After 3 years I changed to the original 40 and changed the whole pipe size to 2.5 and it sounded very good. After 7 years I got tired of the tin, raspy drone on the hwy I drive alot of hwy miles and even in 5th gear it really started to bother my migraines alot. Monday of last week I bought another super 44 and put it on then I just got back from taking a 2000 mile trip in my Ranger and the 44 sounds alot better then the original 40 did. It is deeper, better sounding and it still has drone on the hwy, but not high pitched like the 40 has.The only difference between the 40 and 44 is the 44 is more bassier and deeper then the 40. The 40 is more louder and high pitched.

Between the 3 Flowmasters I have used in the last decade I choose the 44 with 2.5 piping from the catback to be the best setup for the 3L...

forgot we were talking about the 3.blow :icon_thumby:

:icon_rofl: :icon_rofl: :icon_rofl:

AMUSING, I would rather have a Ford v6 in my Ranger then a PeeWee Herman bowtie v8. :icon_rofl:

atleast my bowtie will blow the doors off your v6:thefinger:

seriously, i thought we were talking 4.0's for some reason, then i say magnaflow all the way.

but a 3.0, cherry bomb turbo, or a flowmaster delta 40

You have confused me with somebody who gives a damn!

Since you are happy with your bowtie don't forget your bell and streamers.

A deltaflow would sound good on a 3L, but the 44 would sound better.

ehh, whatever makes ya happy.

i have no job, and i had the 350 and th700r4 sitting in my yard, and there both rebuilt, so why go out and spend money just to have a ford engine??

if you dont like it, thats cool, but keep the comments to your self man. its not cool to knock someones project because its something they like.

they put a ford engine into a camaro, i dont like it, but it was what the guy liked. so ill just keep the comments to myself.

but any matter, i havent heard the super 44 yet, so i cant comments on how it sounds.

its all good bro. no worries. now go have a vodka and coke on me :icon_cheers:

ok so now back to the thread about how much would a cat back with 2.5in with a 44 be i know prices vary from state to state but a good ball park would be good
