OK will i replaced my 98 rangers motor with a 99 its the 3.0 it starts right up when its warm but runs bad till it gets up to temp and by bad i mean wont hardly rev shakes and spits, when it gets warm is clears up quite a bit but it uses a LOT of fuel, when its cold it wont start at all. their is a check engine light on but i don't have a scan tool and didn't know if they can be pulled like the old ones be counting the light flashes.

Almost sounds to me like the Temperature sensor isn't working. Not sending the right information to the computer to adjust everything. Pretty easy replacement.

Go buy a cheap scanner or limp it along to Autozone. If it's throwing codes there's no point in throwing parts at it, just get the codes read. If you can't get it to Autozone buy a reader; A cheap code reader should be $60 at AZ and you can probably find them cheaper online.

thanks guys Ill report back my findings.

Might be a dumb question but did you possibly replace a non flex fuel motor with a flex fuel motor or vise versa? Not a big deal if you swapped pcm's but if you didn't swap pcm's it could cause some funky problems.

well i bet that's it ^ it was a flex fuel motor that went in to a non flex fuel truck crap......whats difference between the motors , all i see is the injectors on the old motor are green and the new motor has grayish ones can i just switch all the sencers I still have the old motor

Yes all you should need to do is change your injectors from the old motor

awesome, thanks for all the help guys!

i did similar thing, i had the 99 3.0 flex fuel and i blew the engine so i put a 2003 3.0 that was not flex fuel in it and i could not get it to run correctly because alot of things were not the same. i ended up changing back to all the sensors from the 99 flex fuel engine and i also changed back to the engines wiring harness from the 99 this fixed all my problems and i am still capable of running the flex fuel, but unfortunatly for you, it would be the reverse so i wouldnt suggest running it becasue i may not beable to run it correctly. hope this helps.

well i changed the injectors along with the upper intake from the old motor she runs like new..... thank you all for all the help
