i am looking at 4x4rangerguy's and it has a 3.0 in it and i have never drove a ranger with a 3.0 do i have no clue how they are with power and gas milage and to me this is the best place for stuff like that so greatly appreciate any advice on the 3.0

mileage is 20 to 23 hwy roughly and 15-17 city, they are known to last around 300k. head gaskets are prob the only downfall to them and they are revvers, most power is produced beyond 3k. hope this helps.

if you get one with good gears (3.73 or higher 4.10 is optimal ) in them and a 5spd they actually are pretty decent engines, i love mine, with the 3.0's either i or my family has owned they have been great engines, my grandmother ran her tauras without coolant in it for 10 miles and after the radiator was replaced, it ran fine, my Uncle has a 94 ranger 4x4 with a 3.0 going on 275K in it still runnin strong

I liked the one I drove. It was about as good as moving a 2wd, supercab ranger around as my 4.0 is at moving a 4x4 explorer around. Seemed like a very workable engine. Just keep a close eye on the cooling system, like the 4.0, they like to crack heads if they get hot (like almost all engines).

This is the third ranger I owned.
My first was an '83 2.3 heavily modified for off road pre'running (I used to race off road in Baja).
My second one was an '86 daily driver with a 2.9 wich turned out to be an awsome engine.
But this one can outake most any V6 providing a few K$ in mods.
Don't take me wrong... Any engine is a great contender on a race track if You inject some K$ to it. You have to supply the reaction times to go along it.
For those who have the need for speed... Money and motivation conbined with reaction times and a good sportsman spirit is all you need to go fast and win.
After all (and trying to make no sense):
Second Place is the first Loser!

good point betomonroy to see the worry on the guys face that just bought his mustang gt as you shoot past him and stay a fenderwell ahead to 40 mph w/ an old beat up 93 3.0 4wd extended cab is worth every second.

I drove a relative's 3.0 ext cab auto tranny. Slower 'n Christmas. I told myself i would never get one.

Then I bought a 3.0 with 4.10s, 5spd, and a powertrax auto locker. I couldn't beleive it was a 3.0. Night an day difference.

As far as milage, with an U/D pulley, full sythetic fluids in the drive line, and even 31in tall tires I get 20 even in the city. Maybe 22 on the hiway, if I keep the revs low (hard to do with the 4.10)
