3.0 overheats then returns to normal

hi my 3.0 is running great now... but before i can even make it to the corner the guage shows overheating. i put the truck in N and shut the engine off let the guage to drop a short bit then restart the engine while moving the guage returns to normal
 
Low coolant level, air in the system, clogged or obstructed radiator (inside or out), Thermostat, or the 3.0's are well known for the water pump propeller to erode away to almost nothing and cause heating issues

first 2 things i would check is 1. coolant level to confirm you're not losing coolant.. 2. check to make sure your t stat isn't stuck closed.. i would highly suggest getting a fail safe one so it stays open when it fails. both of these options cost little to no money, obviously checking coolant level is free but if its topped i would highly suggest checking the t stat to see if it has indeed froze closed...
