i used to have a 94 4.0 ranger now that i bought a 04 ranger 4x4 3.0 i realized that it dosent make enough power to keep it going down the highway with the 33 inch tires i just got i want more low end torque i was wondering about the 1.7 rocker swap if it does anything or if there is any thing i can do besides supercharging to make it climb hills better. i took it to the sand dunes and the tires would bog the motor down and i could not do 75 on the highway because of a 15 mph headwind. i need some suggestions or personal experience with this problem

Did you re-gear the differentials? Likely your stock gearing is not sufficient to support the change of tire size. You may need at least4.10's, probably better off with 4.56's.. Search the forums, this is a common issue.

it gas 4.10 with ls i dont want to get into gears beacause i have two do them twice front and rear

If it doesn't have the power to keep it going down the highway with 4.10's and 33's, then something is broken. You're chasing the wrong issue by throwing 'performance' parts at it. Fix what's broken first.

I had 36's on my 93 3.0 5 spd ranger(3.73 gearing), and i could cruise 70-75 on the highway no problem, something else might be wrong if you can't even keep it goin at 75 with only 33s, i had an 01 with 33x12.50s and a 3.0 auto, it could easily cruise the highways no prob either and it only had 3.73s.

it has 50000 miles on it there is nothing wrong i already did every thing i could as far as tune up fuel filter air filter it was pretty quick when i had 245s on now that it has 285 75 16 its horrible and i work in a shop

We're not trying to steer you wrong here, but every other person on here with a properly running truck can do what you're trying to do without aftermarket parts. Good grief, my 100hp '94 with 3.45's can maintain any legal speed.

There IS something wrong with your truck, but you're blinding yourself to it.

3.0s are a torque void. You're more than likely in the wrong gear, let that bitch rev, running around in overdrive with 33s and stock gears is going to make it a total turd, you need 4.88s.

im pretty sure nothing is wrong with my truck i fix cars for a living all that i am asking is that would the 1.7 rockers help me a little bit with this problem i am having i can do 75 on the highway but when i get to a slight hill i have to down shift to forth and my foot is to the floor to try and maintain 75 or should i just sell this truck and drive my jeep

I've read about some guys who have installed them and seemed pretty happy that they did. Not so sure that roller rockers would gain you the HP you want. You got to look at it this way, the 3.0 is not a power house period. With the bigger tires comes more friction on the pavement, more wind resistance and raises the Truck a little more allowing more air to flow underneath which adds more resistance as well. The gearing in the truck isn't adequate for those size tires. Changing your gearing would help your problem tremendously! But with bigger tires, going 75mph, 15mph headwind, stock gearing, going slightly uphill, theres a few things working against you.

If I were you I would go with gears over roller rockers. All of the above JMHO. Good luck!

Since, to some degree, I'm having the same problems as basspro350 when it comes to having little power at higher speeds, and having to downshift at the slightest hill with stock rims and tires, it doesn't help me or him much to be told there's something wrong, but not give any type of starting point to look for problems. I realize that without looking at his or my specific vehicle it can be hard to make assumptions, but there's got to be enough expertise on this forum to start the guy off right.

I understand your point, but that is like asking me to diagnose a problem when you provide no description beyond the minimum required to prove that one exists. All we know is that you're short on power. No other symptoms, not even fuel economy. In your case, I don't even know gearing or tire size. Check engine light on? There are a lot of things you can check, if you're truly interested in finding out what the problem is.

nothing wrong with my truck had it in my shop My question is will 1.7 rockers help me get some more usable power out of this turd ass 3.0 or should i sell thiss truck and drive my jeep

You don't listen too well. You shound't even be using 5th AT ALL with 33s on stock gears, and you expect it to go up a hill at 75 in 5th? You're nuts. Let that bitch rev like I said before. 4.88s will help more than anything.
