Hello, just looking for some insight on a donor motor that I’m in need of. I have a 94 Mazda B3000 5 speed that has rod knock so I’ve been looking for a donor and I found a 96 ranger automatic and I was just wondering if the difference from OBD1-obd2 would make a difference? Both vehicles have the Vulcan 3.0 motor. Also since it’s a 96 will I have to change the wiring harness to the one from the donor or can I keep the one I have in the 94? I would appreciate any insight as I am new to this platform of these vehicle.

swap the intake and whatever non mechanical parts that you will need from your 94 onto the 96. this will allow you to use your existing ecm and wiring harness.

and it goes without saying, but swap your clutch// flywheel to the new motor as well.

My 95 b2300 was obd2 compliment. The 94 may be as well.

nope, 95 was the new year for OBD2 and an interior facelift :(

So I shouldn’t have any issues using a obd1 wiring harness for a motor that came out of a obd2? Just trying to get all my info together before I start this swap

no, 95 was first year for obd2 for the ranger. most other vehicles it was 96. obd1 wiring is *not* compatible with obd2, you will need to swap all sensor and intake to make an obd1 engine work in an obd2 vehicle and vice versa

Ok so I finally got the bad 3.0 out of my 94 and working on getting the good one out of the 95 the only issue I have seen so far is on the 94 I have a distributor and on the 95 it looks like a cam sensor in the same place that the distributor would go. Anyone have a idea on what I have to do or if I can just bolt up my distributor in place of the cam sensor?
