my 1993 3.0 has been running rough and missing struggles to get up to speed and boggs down. New cap rotor, plugs ,wire, new msd streetfire coil all this week. the cats were glowing red hot when i was driving it could that just be it running way to rich or could they be clogged? i did throw some seafoam in there could that be making the cats red hot?

What's your gas mileage been? Has there been a strong smell of gas?

Catalytic converters DO NOT go bad, they are murdered. Too much hydrocarbon and they self destruct. Glowing red is an indication for this.

You need to figure out why it's putting too much fuel into the mixture.

One thing I'd check is the ECT, it's usually a big culprit, other than that....HO2S's, MAF......in any case...there is a sensor more than likely tricking the computer.

how would i check the ect. What do you mean bye h02s?

A resistance check with a DMM (digital mulit-meter) or even just a ohm meter. Buy a chilton manual and compare the reading to the chart. Should be obvious it's off.

A HO2S is a Heated Oxygen Sensor. Or just oxygen sensor. Ford grammar kicking in. lol

my thermostat is bad i dont know if that helps plan on doing today may just put the new sensor in its only 8 bucks at the auto parts store.

Cats glowing red and no power are key signs they need to be replaced also the smell of rotten eggs usually presents itself at this point. Cats do go out, usaully its in vehicles that don't see much highway driving. Insufficient flow caused by plugged cats causes them to heat up and glow red. Replace them before you dump a bunch of money into stuff that wont help your issue, go ask a bunch of muffler shops about glowing cats they will tell you the same thing.

You are mis-informed then. Cats DO NOT just go out.

There has to be something that takes them out. It's usually years of oil contamination from a worn engine, or a head gasket leaks/blows and coolant contaminates it, or more commonly excessive amounts of hydrocarbon in the exhaust, too rich.

If he replaces the catalytic converter, and not the problem, the problem will just waste another catalytic converter.

cool im thinking the glowing cat may have been caused bye the unburned seafoam due to the bad thermostat. I replaced the bad thermostat and a new ect. I know putting random parts in a car is a useless way to find a problem but the ect and thermostats are know to be bad anyway so 20 bucks wont kill me.

no change heats up tho cats still glowing bad going to have them "replaced tomorrow''

fuel pressure is 30 when i turn the key to the on then 30 to 38 when running
i pulled all the plugs and 3 and 4 were both fouled up changed them out runs a little better but still missing cats still glowing.

your koeo pressure seems a little low. did you check the FPR. how many cycles to get to the koeo pressure. what was the FP with the vacuum line off the FPR
