3.0 misfire

1998 ranger 4x4 3.0 202000 miles got a misfire on # 5 cyl but its strange because one minute its misfiring and the next its not, it could be misfiring and i,ll shut it off and restart it and it will run fine and ill shut it down again and start it and it will misfire havent gone thru it yet i just wanted to post and get some feedback. thanx,

Check the plug, wire, if nothing obvious do a compression check on #5, the 3.0's are bad to have valve seat problems.

found a bad #5 wire. installed those ignition wires two years ago by the book.cant believe that the autolites i installed are gone already, well i guess thats progress! cut corners and lose customers thanx for the help, Tony
