Guys I got a 97 explorer 4.0L that I bought for the seats, console, wheels stuff like that. But are there any other parts under the hood that are shared by both the 4.0L explorer and a 98 3.0L ranger....for example, starting motor, alternator, gem module, wiper motor...stuff like that????

cheers,

John

Wiper motor is not an engine part. No engine parts exchange.

Will,

thanks for the stupid comment, I thought this was a forum to help people. Read the question again before you come down with the stupid comments. I never said the wiper moror was part of the engine.

dude, you lumped wiper motor in with all of the engine electrical parts you listed, he clarified that they are in 2 different categories, and that none of the motor parts will swap over, what more do you want from an answer? he answered exactly what you asked

Weezl has a point man. Even though you never specifically said it was an engine part you did kind of lump it in with a bunch of engine specific parts, and the whole tone of the thread kind of seems like you are asking about engine specific parts.

Also, Will is pretty good with this stuff and, if you didn't notice, a forum moderator. Rule number 1 of almost any forum is "Don't jump down the throat of the mods."

under the hood could mean, rad cap, or wiper fluid container for that matter. I'm not jumping down anyone's throat mod or not, are they not just people too? It's just that the tone of the reply was as if I was being talked down too. Not trying to pi$$ anyone off.

lots of bickering for a lot of nothing.... "Wiper motor is not an engine part." is a smart-ass comment as i took it, there wasnt much reason for that to begin with but in any case, big freakin deal.

to answer the question, i would be there is at least a few things you can use... im not sure so i dont want to suggest much, but i would imagine you can start with the pcv valve? thats all i got, sorry:)

thanks man, I'll start with that, Like I said, I just got the explorer for the stuff stated above. But I figured before I send it off to the scrap yard, I might as well stock up on parts that will work on my ranger (if I even need them), like some of the switches on the dash, inst cluster, air bags. So i just figure I'd ask about any other stuff...sorry to come off sounding like as a$$, but I was just looking for help.

cheers

i'd look real close and compare to what you have on your 3.0 to the 4.0. if the tranny cooler looks bigger on the 4.0, get it. if things like a solenoid, radiator, or whatever looks better or bigger, then take it off and use it.
you might try looking at the www.lmctruck.com website and see what parts will cross over. just checked and the radiator should. lots of good info there. good luck!

Did you take the rear axle off the Explorer? I would. 31 spline 8.8" with disc brakes. It's not a straight replacement part but it would be an upgrade to what's on your Ranger.

Basically everything from the explorerwill swap over to your ranger, Axles, Wheels, Drivelines, transfer case. Alot of interior parts, seats, stereo, dash, speakers. And everything under the hood beside the engine main parts (anything that can bolt on like the alternator and Power steering pump) starter motor won't work though...

radiator can be made to work. So can the airbox, and such.

Almost anything in the engine compartment could be made to work, short of the engine, starter, and wiring.

The 4L and 3L are completely different engines from completely different families.

Perfect, I'll get the sockets a turning the next week, then I'll get the rest of it sent to the bone yard. I did pull the axle, but not ready to swap it as of yet. The engine runs fine, I have it advertised locally, don't want to try an engine swap as the 3.0 is low miles and runs fine. The info is much apprecated.

John
