i know a lot of people here are into drag rangers not 4x4 but i got a 1999 4x4 ranger and im wantin what i call a snurkle intake some way of runnin the intake above the hood/cab, something i know there is nothing out there i was just wonderin if anyone has made a homemade device yet or if anyone has any pics/ideas that might help me, thx

pointless because even tho your intake isnt drawing water, doesnt mean all your electrical connectors arent taking a beating. the trk isnt built for high water, and siliconing the hell out of every last connection wont help. you also have to consider not so well sealed opening such as starter to flywheel area and distributors/ coil packs etc. no sense in trying it and fry your trks harness. i work on too many mud fourwheelers that get sunk from little things like that and i can tell you for fact the trk is by far not built for such abuse. if anything, lift the piss out of it and try not to go above framerails.

well true the eletric is taking a beatin but that is easyier to deal with then hyrdolocking the motor and puttin a 900 dollar rebuild to replace a broke rod and gettin it re bored ect....coil pack on top of the motor is high enough its just with the intake box drawing air from the head light that aint given me a lot of room for error, if i knew a hole was deep enough before i got in it i wouldnt go trust me but i think we've all got in a little deeper then we thought we would time to time and im wantin this as a "ass saver" if i do sink it again. now if there is some kind of technical issues i will have doing this that would be helpful info cause i wouldnt know the first thing on somethin like that. and i would love to lift the piss out of it but i cant swing 3gran to do it but on the subject with a leveling kit on it can i run a 35in tire or 33 gonna be max with no lift? thanks for advice ruro

I have the same truck and uhhh yeah, not so well in deep muddy water etc. Stick to the climbing!

You can build it up Yourself. All You need to do is buy a few ABS or Pvc pipe and connectors and a cone filter.
Start by buying the cone filter and from there you can take it to your local home depot / Lowes / Plumbing supply so that you can determine what diameter pipe and pipe connectors you are going to need.
Remove the stock filter box and connect your plumbing to the intake hose (remember your MAF sensor is right at the entrance of this hose therefore you can not eliminate this hose) and enjoy the ride.

Look under the "intakes" section of the tech library, there's plenty of info on building a snorkel DIY
