3.0 header question

I wouldn't even bother with those... You will not gain 15-20 hp (I didn't even gain 15-20 hp with hew LT headers on my stock Camaro)... You MIGHT (I emphasize MIGHT) gain 3 hp if you are really lucky... A stock engine does not move enough air for the stock manifolds to be restrictive... Now, I could see installing a long tube header on an engine that has had head, intake and valve work, and makes quite a bit more power than stock, but putting headers on a stock engine (for anyhting other than sound preference) is a worthless waste of money...

BTW - Any kind of short tube header is worthless on any vehicle (except maybe turbocharged applications)... IMHO, long tube headers are the only ones worth spending money on...

There is some mis-info there.

First of all, the stock 3.0 manifolds suck. The exhaust hits a wall as soon as it exits the port. Luckily the exhaust scavenges enough to not severely impact torque output, but as soon as you get the R's up the manifolds become a restriction. I agree you wont gain 15-20hp unless you have an engine that is modded or supercharged and still running the stock manifolds.

You are completely wrong about short tube headers. They have a dramatic increase in a lot of applications, including mustangs. However if long tubes are available, that is where your money should be spent.

I was working on a mid-tube header for the 3.0 before this header hit the market, as soon as I get a couple of projects done im gonna build the prototype set for my truck to see how they work out.

Good to see another product for the 3.0 though, hell if I wasnt making a set for my truck, id buy a set of these, for $100 you cant go wrong, and it should bring the price the JBA's down a little bit.

well the listing says it is for 98-03 rangers

is the 92-97 exhaust that much differant? or would one only have to plug an egr port?

The 1647 that they advertise matching are for late model. I put the 1647 in my 2005. You probably need the head3ers with the EGR tube

I don't see any mis-info there (not to be an ass)... I said you might gain 3 hp or so... Fact of the matter is that you WILL NOT increase exhaust efficiency enough to see a 15-20 hp increase (which is why it would not be worth it to me)... Now, if he had internal work done I could see him needing to upgrade his exhaust system... About the shorty headers that was my opinion, LT headers are the only thing I would ever spend my money on... My opinions are slightly biased (being that all my exhaust experience has been on an LT1 350), but the difference in some short tube and long tube headers were astounding on my not so stock Camaro... I just don't see any benefit to putting headers on a stock vehicle...

With just headers, you will not see even close to 15-20hp, but if he had a free flowing exhaust with the headers, I could see him getting at least 10hp maybe 15 with the late model intake. I know when I put my flowmaster with a 3" out on, I could feel the difference, and it was stock from the rear cat forward. If I put headers on my truck, I bet I could free up some more power, as Im sure thats the restriction now.

I really don't care to argue about it, I just don't see any point in putting headers on a stock truck, it won't do enough to even be worth the time, and money invested... Unless you really want a different sound...

Well, you are assuming a stock configuration. I agree that if the headers are your only mod, you are probably wasting your time. But even without head work, if you have done some of the "air in, air out" stuff (cat-back, intake work, etc.) the manifolds are holding back some ponies. 15-20HP? I doubt it. 5HP? Most definitely. And $100 for 5HP is a tremendous bargain IMO.

Yes, I agree headers are a good upgrade on a non-stock application... I still hold to my argument that to actually see a worthwhile difference in power, headwork would have to be done... The intake is already efficient enough to feed the stock head just fine (it's the same intake that's on my 4.0 that uses lots more air)... Exhaust work is mostly pointless (except for sound) without a decent header also... At stock levels there just isn't enough air movement to justify spending the time and money for a header (even if you will gain 5hp)... 5hp for $100 is not a great deal to me when for 10x the money you can get 20x the hp (I am using my Camaro as an example, I spent a little over $1000 and increased by a little more than 100 hp, I do not know the tuning potential of a 3.0l engine)...

BTW - This is my OPINION, which is that I wouldn't waste the money... You can if you want... I don't care, it's not my money, just trying to give advice :D
