i have a 3.0 1999 ranger with a 4 inch lift and 33s. the gas mileage is awful. today i changed the plugs and wires, and hooked it up to a scan tool at my school and looked at all the perimeters and everything was perfect. sensors areall working fine, air filter is clean. im not sure what else to do. any ideas would be appreciated. thanks

wat kinda mpg we talkin bout? cuz a lift and 33's aint gonna help a bit

What do you consider bad mileage? My 3.0 with 31's and a four inch lift gets 16 to 18 on the highway and 15 in the city. You have a small motor big tires and the truck is higher up than its supposed to be therefore it catches more air and is less aero dynamic. You need to give more info about the truck, what gears its running and what type of transmission it has it will help everyone give you more ideas.

Found your problem:icon_twisted:

The 3.0 isnt exactly the best on gas and those tires definitely wont help. How bad is awful?

i know the 3.0 doesnt have a lota power i figured that out by now so no thats not the problem. the tires dont help but im talkin 8 a gallon. the speedo is accurate i already looked into that

How do you calculate the milage? How often do you do the calculating? When you leave the house how far are the trips? How long does it sit before you drive it back home?

rangercrawler you have a sick truck, where did you ever find a 2008 reg cab short box 4x4?? sorry to thread jack

well i fill it up and reset the mileage. i try to let it warm up before i take off when i can. i usually go about 10 miles to school than 10 back home. it does sit there all day pretty much but im putting my 31x10.5 on it instead of the 33x12.5 that are on it now so maybe that will help but how much? would that make that much of a difference?

Not much difference at all. Your milage problem is just what you posted.. In order to get milage you need to run it all day for a full tank of fuel. Them 10 mile trips would make my ride get terrible milage too.

I agree with big jim but 8mpg sounds realy low, like I said with basically the same setup as you I get between 16 and 18 and I am about 15 miles from work, something is not right have you done any work on it? Spark plugs, fuel filter, cleaned your maf, de-carboned your intake? Any of that stuff may help.
