3.0 gearing question

So I bought this prerunner looking truck. I"m running 31's and its got the 3.0. Needless to say its a dog. Is got 3.45 gears in its stock, and its a 2wd. I have a line on a 4.10 geared 8.8 out of an explorer. How much is this going to help, and how close to stock gearing will I be with the 4.10's. I'm just looking for an idea. This think is a dog and rarely gets put into 5th. I'd like the option to tow a small trailer, and pull a hill longer than my truck length. :icon_bounceblue:

First we need a picture of it. It has nothing to do with your issue I just wanna see it. Second. Subtract 3.45 from 4.10 and thats how close you'll be. Divide 3.45 by 4.10 and that will tell you how much different in percentage your gears are. Im assuming it's a 5spd, so 4.10 will be a good gear for you with 31's. Not neccessarily offroad, but highway and city driving and a small trailer youll do just fine. You will definitely be able to make hills with 4.10. However I am not sure of the 3.0 specs, ask around, you might already have the 8.8 and just need to swap the gears.

If you specify what the majority of your driving is and how far how long etc. we can prolly give you a better idea.

well, I can get the rear for 200 bucks, gears in the 7.5 that I currently have would run around 5-600 to regear. its a five speed, and all I do is highway with it.

Grab that 8.8, get the spring perches moved, and throw it under there, its a stronger axle anyway.

Yeah, thats what I'm going to do I think. I installed one in an old cherokee trail truck I had it seemed to really do well. My only concern is driveshaft length and joint size. are these 100% compatable? Will I need to have my driveshaft worked on? I really just want to bolt in whatever I get.
