Hi guys my little brother bought a 2000 flex fuel ranger and somone had done a butcher/patch job on the valves and we had to have the heads rebuilt so my dad just rebuilt the whole motor. Anyways long story short this rebuilt motor is messed up and my brother needs a truck and is already outa money. None of the local junkyards in MN have the motor we need so I am looking into putting a tarus motor in it. I am hoping some of you can tell me if this is the route to take or not. I would imagine you would have to change the entire wireing harness and im not even sure if it would bolt up so can someone please enlighten me.
Thanks for any help

Ford put two different 3.0 engines in the taurus. The 3.0 OHV is the same vulcan motor that comes in the ranger, so it would bolt in without issue. All you'd need to do is keep the ranger head gaskets, lower intake, and exhaust manifolds along with the ranger accesssories.
The 3.0 DOHC duratec motor was also used in the Taurus, and has no common parts with the ranger motor. It would require the entire engine, wiring harness, a new trans( or at least a custom bell housing) and serious modification, which means $$$$, to work.
You can also use 3.0's from sable's, probe's, aerostar's and several other Fords, because the long blocks are interchangeable. Just make sure its the OHV engine and not the DOHC.

This is the route I took for my 1999. I found a taurus flexfuel 3.0 vulcan motor out of a 2005 with only 25,000 miles on it for $300. I replaced the head gaskets with the correct ones and then used the exaust manifolds, the entire intake and injectors along with the wire harness from the original ranger motor. Everything worked out great without any problems. I even used the taurus oil pan. Hope this helps.

Thank you both you answered all my questions!
