How difficult would it be to convert a 2003 Ranger Edge to 4wd?

Just curious.

Do a search, discussed ad nauseam, big job (frame changed IIRC).

Ok, searched. I haven't seen any threads on Edge 2x4's. IIRC someone told me Edge's were 4x4's with no front axle, driveshaft and transfer case.

Ya know, I may be eating my words......the edges (as you know) do have the torsion bar front. The crossmembers and whatnot, I dunno. So, I retract my statement as I have no idea if the frame on an edge is completely identical to a 4X4.

If it is, it sounds like an edge is perfect for a conversion with a manual t-case.....none of Ford's craptastic attempts at ESOF and being at the mercy of the GEM and a modified windshield wiper motor shifting the t-case.

Thats exactly why I was wondering about it. And having a manual transfer case would be quite nice.

I just used an edge frame to rebuild a wrecked 4wd truck. You would need the spindles, brakes, axles, front driveshaft, transfer case, and either a trans or convert your trans to 4wd. The next problem is the wiring but you could use a live axle and a manual transfer case to get around that. On the edges ford didn't put one of the mounting tabs for the front axle on the frame so you would have to make one(I did) or get one off another frame(they are welded on) Its a very do-able swap.
