3.0 compatibility

Hello,
I have a 1998 ranger 3.0 single cab with the 4r44e automatic transmission with a badly rotted frame. My idea was to swap the drive train onto another ranger since the truck has less than 100k miles. I found a 1997 ranger extended cab 4.0 with a blown automatic transmission for cheap. My question is can I directly swap my drive train onto the 1997 without any issues?

Certainly doable if both are 2WD or both are 4WD
You will need the 3.0l, 4r44e and computer with engine and trans wiring harness moved over to the '97.

One issue is that Ford changed the fuel system in 1998, 1998 was the start of newer model Rangers, often called 3rd generation
1998 and newer used returnless system using 65psi of pressure
1997 and older used return style using 35psi of pressure.

'98 computer will be expecting 65psi
'98 fuel line from regular cab would probably be too short to fit extended cab.
65psi fuel pump should fit in '97 fuel tank, but not sure.
You may be able to use one of the existing '97 fuel line.

4R44E/4R55E are basically the same transmission, 4R55E had different gearing and was used on 4.0l Rangers.
So '97 extended cab drive shaft should work fine with 4R44E

Thanks for the reply ron, hope your Christmas was good! What if I just bought the extended cab fuel line and used the existing 98 fuel tank? That sounds like the easiest route if it would work.
