ok, today i had a noise come from the back of my engine (2000 ranger 3.0 auto) it seemed to get a lil louder when you revved up then it went away. now the check engine light come one.

p0340 cam sensor

p1309 misfire monitor disabled

but the truck is running fine. thanks in advance

CMPS. Nice squeaky squealing sound? Chirp, chirp?

Replace it. Let me guess around 80K on the truck?

That goes out, it'll shear the teeth off it and not drive the oil pump. Kiss your 3.0 goodbye then.

The PCM uses that to time the injectors too. So that may explain the misfire monitor disable.

ok, your spot on with the noise, but did i miss something? what are you saying to replace? oh and thanks again..

Cam Position Sensor

Many will suggest going to Ford for the Part.

You'll need an alignment tool also. Have a Chiltons manual?

now, if your just replacing the sensor do u have to have the tool?

or if the gear assembly stays in im ok right? and dont need to tool?

No your not replacing just the sensor... you need to replace the syncronizer (oil pump drive assembly). The bushings are going bad. you will have to time the new part with the special tool.

ok, so i found just the sensor.... where do i find the whole thingy? do parts houses sell it?

heres a link to the dorman part (it comes with the tool), some people have had problems with them failing sooner than the OE one, but its got a picture on there for you so you can atleast see what you are after.
https://www.dormanproducts.com/cgi-...=&start=&vfrom=&prev=&vnext=&category_list=:0 (i know it says taurus/sable, but the part no. is the same for the ranger when i catalog it in my computer)
if you want to go the OE route, OTC makes the syncronizer tool part no. 6473 http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/otc6473.html
