My dad had an 04 with the 3.0 and i have an 07 with the 3.0 both trucks are EXACTLY the same Edge/Sport both Ext Cab 5spd man. how come mine feels like it has much more power than his did when it was new?? we only had the truck for 15000 miles. so its not an issue of wear, but did they make any changes to the engine in this time period? i also noticed my 3.0 doesnt bear the Vulcan name anymore

Maybe it's really a 4.0 and you just don't realize it? LOL (J/K)

What are the gear ratios between the two? Both 2wd & auto?

I'd say gear ratio. It can make a big difference.

its all in your mind. Maybe if one was red or something it seemed faster but otherwise there the same.

i dunno even he said it was a little diff, maybe the knn gave a tiny different throttle response but i dont think the exhaust would do anything except more noise.
maybe it is in our heads

K&N wouldn't do anything. Maybe one had a throttle cable more worn out than the other. LOL

Actually, it could be wear. His engine probably isn't broken-in yet.

Yeah, that difference in gear ratios would show a difference in acceleration or power...

and FYI, they are still vulcans. there is a 3.0 duratec (escapes, taurus')...but the OHV 3.0 used in the rangers and standard in the taurus is still a vulcan.

how hard would you think it would be to swap in a 3.0 Duratec in a Ranger, if they werent front wheel drive and Automatic Tranny engines??

hard.

first off, i have no 100% assurance that the duratec and vulcan 3.0's share the same bellhousing bolt pattern (though the rumor is that they do). the intake faces the wrong way, the water neck is on the wrong end, motor mounts need fabbed, oil pan clearence could be an issue, custom headers would need to be made, wiring harnesses would have to be mated and the computer installed. theres probably plenty more but thats just to start.

it would be a cool swap, but a lot of work.
