3.0 bogging and sputtering

I have a 98 3.0, new air filter, fuel filter and when i put the motor under a load it sputters and backfires. The thing is that it is completly fine at idle or at a constant rpm. When i had my battery changed at autozone last week he said that my alternator is only putting out 40amps, could this issue be related to this or maybe another problem???

Alt will effect it. Would also look at your IAC too.

40 amps is plenty! Where does it back fire..up front or out back?

Do you have the firing order correct? Did this all start after the fuel filter install?

What RPM range does it start at? Does it happen at lower RPMs as the motor warms?

40 amps is not even half of the 90 amps that the alternator originally produces.... and i am also experiencing a whine through my stereo at low volume levels (Properly installed, im an audio tech) it started randomnly, without warning. the sputtering will be random, but i can usually get it to sputter when i floor it, but its really bad when i do my first take off of the day. The backfiring i can hear at the air filter and out of the exhaust.

I had an occurance like this before. My Alt started going out and the worse it got the worse the engine ran until I replaced it. To include lagging, loss of power, back firing and eventually leaving me sitting on the side of the road.
What does your voltage guage do? I still say the Alt. does effect this, but may also be your MAF sensor going bad too. Are you getting any codes?
