Auto or manual tranny. My dad is running 3.slow, 30 inch BFGoodrich A/Ts under his ranger and the other day look up what the axle code is, hes running 4.10's with an auto and it is gutless!!!!!

So either 4.88 or 5.13, depending how you plan on driving the truck road wise.

running 31s with 3.73 and a manual...gutless now. i did better with a 2.9 and 32s with 373

You guys are complaining about gutless...have you driven a 2.3??? LOL

Yes I have, my truck use to be one, carbed then FI engines and still had no nuts to speak of running stock size tires.

I guess I haven't driven a 4.0 in ages, but I think my 3.0 with 4.10's is pretty peppy actually. Squeals the tires easily enough and is pretty good for passing on the highway :dunno:

Lets say my truck with the 2.8, 3.73 gears, and 32 inch M/Ts can out do my dads truck if that says how gutless his is. His struggles baddly to climb a hill and mine I can be in second and still accelerate up it and pass him.

Wow.... either I don't know what I'm missing or they were sober on the 3.0 assembly line the day mine was built....

I think you'll be happy with either 4.56's or 4.88's. Depends on auto or manual and what's your main purpose of the rig.

With 33" rubber, for sure 4.88s.
The 3.0L is a 145 horse engine, however it'll never produce anything close to that if it can't spin fast enough, it'll just guzzle fuel instead (IIRC it's torque peak is in the mid-3000s RPM range).
