I bought a 2000 ranger that had the engine swapped from the 3.0 to a 4.0sohc from a 2000 explorer. The guy I bought it from almost completed it and then I bought it (for cheap). Now that everything is connected the truck will not run. The computer and wiring harness are from the explorer. I took it to the dealer and they said the theft system will not comunicate with the cpu. How do I bypass the theft system? Or is there something easier/cheaper that can be done?

Thanks
Bryan

You need the theft module and ignition with keys from the explorer

ok. Do they have to match the vin # of the explorer?

Why couldn't the dealership program the ignition? Don't they have the chipped keys. IE, swap the explorer ignition in from the donor vehicle then have two keys cut. It's not cheap. Near $200 for two chipped keys up here. Should be less down there.

when i used to work at a shop a customer had a problem with his caddy it would crank and wouldnt start, to make a long story short i found out that the theft module was bad, found out cause i by passed it and got the car running. gotta be somthing along the same lines to the rangers that you could do... right? :icon_confused:

I actually payed to have chipped keys made and programed but they didnt work. They said because of this comunication problem between the theft system and the computer. At the dealership they can bypass the theft system but they wont and i dont know how. I believe you have to have a "ford" computer to be able to mess with that stuff and I cant find a shop with one around here or anyone that knows how to bypass the theft system.

Also I dont have the explorer that I got the engine and computer from so I cant take anything else off it. If someone knew of a shop around the bay area, CA. I could talk to them but other than that I keep serching and talking to people to try to find somone that has done this swap before or knows how to fix this. Thanks for the help.

There has to be a way to make it work.:icon_confused:
