I've gotten an 86 2WD running after sitting 6 mos. or more. On the first test drive the transmission wanted to hesitate in Drive and Reverse. After it warmed up, everything seemed to work fine - no more slipping.
The next day, same problem. Slips for the first 5 minutes when cold but moves and shifts fine after that. Haven't driven it more than a few miles yet but that can't be a good sign. Fluid is clean & full.
I have a 4 WD parts truck with the same trans. (A4LD) and was wondering if I could put it in the 2WD truck. Both have 2.9 engines & I'm wondering if it's possible with a little wrenching to swap the transmissions ? Transfer case adapter removed & the other tail bolted on ? Do they use the same output shafts but different tail housings ? What am I up against here ?
Any help or advice appreciated.
