I have a '01 Edge 2wd w/ the 4.0 w/ auto trans. Ihave a had quite a bit of work done on it under warrenty already, over $5000 in work including 2-3 overhauls. I think it is starting to go again, I can feel it slipping. I am thinking about just replacing the trans alltogether with a 4wd trans, but will it bolt up correctly and how much work is involved?

Thanks for the help.

it will bolt up to the motor, but you would need the transfer case and at least the rear drive line out of a 4x4.

but im not sure what your hoping to accomplish...there is no difference internally between a 2wd and 4wd trans. the only difference is the tailshaft (2wd has a slip yoke for the drive line to slide in, while a 4wd has a flange for the t-case to bolt to).

I am looking to start the swap from 2wd to 4wd. It would just be the first step of the process, since the trans is something I'd need, I'd goahead and get what I need to make it 4wd.

In that case you would need the 4WD transmission, transfer case and for now the rear driveshaft.

Thanks for the help guys, this will get me started in the right direction.
