Is there a difference in frame on a 92 ranger 2wd or is it possible to convert a 2wd ranger to 4x4.

The engine cross members are different between the 2wd and 4x4 trucks, and would need to be swapped to convert it to a 4x4. IIRC its riveted and welded in place.

Possible, yes. Easy or cheap, no. Better to trade your truck on a similar one with 4wd.
quick question. would you have to change the engine crossmember or could you modify the 2wd one. i was thinking about converting my 96 with a 2.3 to 4wd but i dont know if the tranny and tcase i have would work behind the 2.3. its out of an 87 stx ranger i beleive.
no you can't modify it...must change out the crossmembers....
or, you could do a SAS.....
