has anyone ever swapped a i-beam suspension from a 97 or earlier to a 99 ranger? and is there any difference in the frame width? was planning to swap to a 4x4 and sas but i want the gas millage of a 2wd so decided not to.

I assume that you will be lifting the truck and putting larger tires on it aswell? Those will have a much greater impact on your MPG than the added wieght of the 4x4 driveline.

i have a 6in lift and 33s right now and am happy with my mileage. i can get a frame from a 97 ranger for 150 bucks and i know autofab makes good kits for travel.so i was wondering the frame width cause i would probably cut the frame and my 99 frame to and put the 97 front clip in(of course beefing the **** out of the split section) to make it faster and easier.if it looks to be way to muck of a pain i will just save a shit load of money for a Blitzkrieg lift for $4150.00 which is way to much for me.shit my trucks only worth $4500.

It is impossible without MAJOR frame modification. The whole front part of the frame on the '98+ Rangers is different. Frame width is the same.

Anyone considering that swap should go with a SAS or just trade their truck in on a 4wd Ranger.

i would suggest actually doing a solid axle swap at this time as it will be alot more cost effective and reliable then grafting 4wd components onto that frame

i don't want 4wd i just want the i beam front end for lots of off road travel.shit i already have a 1974 f250 with 6in. lift , 37in boggers,514 with scj heads,c6 trans and np205 trans case, no 4wd ranger will beat that.thanks for letting me know there the same width thats all i needed to know.

carefull what u say on here.....theres plenty of 4wd rangers on here that would put that f-250 of urs to shame without breaking a sweat. i know mine when its done will be one, its not just about size, cause really, a 74-f250 on 37's aint all that impressive...

shit trust me i know theres rangers that can beat my truck.just saying i have a bad ass 4x4 and don't want another 4x4.don't get offended.rangers are for u... to me a 4x4 needs to be big, loud, and powerful,it takes to much mods to make a ranger like that so there worthless to me,but i believe rangers make the best pre runners. thats why i wondered if rangers ever had different frame widths so i can think about a frame swap or frame splice for a I beam front suspension.0 and by the way telling someone that ur ranger will put my f250 to shame is really ignorant when u don't know its capability's, and when i said "no 4x4 rangers can beat that" its a joke lighten up.

i wasnt joking, ive built too many rigs, i know what a 70's f-250 on 37's will do. it isnt ignorance its common knowledge, now im not tryin to come across as a asshole(even though i may have)

that being said, its all about ground clearance...id rather run the lighter running gear of a 1/2 ton on 35" boggers then a 3/4 ton on 37" boggers because the simple fact is the ground clearance is greater with the 1/2 ton, which means no matter how much power u have ur gonna be sittin on ur axles long before i would be

if you want a long travel I beam set up, you could do equal lenths.build your own piviots and beams, frame width wont matter then.

May also want to contact giant motorsports. They have a I beam kit for toyota,so they may beable to help you out.

perry mcneil has also done Ibeam convertions.

both companys using equal lenth beam set ups.

there are also a handful of A-arm kits for your truck out there too.

thanks for the info i will check it out,i know theres allot of kits for the a arms, but to get the travel takes 4000+ dollars with a giant or blitzkrieg suspension kit.if its more expensive to do a i beam conversion than to buy blitzkrieg lt race kit than i will save up lots of money for the a arm kit.And critter dude i know theres a shit load of ground clearance u can get out of a ranger, but what i do my f250 is fine,i used a prerunner suspension setup for late 90s early 2000 excursions made by evo racing and it has a shit load of suspension travel and articulation.plus theres no mods for bigger engines,or stronger drivetrain its already there, plus i can use it to tow 10000 lbs with no problems, cant really do that with a ranger.also not saying your an asshole, wouldn't say that to someone i don't know from Adam, just saying unless you did a side by side comparison in rock crawling, mud racing ext. its just not possible to say my f250s better than your rangers vise versa. just measured my ground clearance to the part of my t-case and its 38inches , thats not little ground clearance.i don't have a pic phone or camera to take a pic of my f250 so for u to get an idea of how it looks,go to Google image's and type in f250 ranger ,the second row on the left shows a brown f250.mine has 37 theres has 40s,my tires a 2 inches above the bottom frame line(stole my idea from them) would tell you where there internet site is but just cant find the url, maybe u can tho.

rngrdngr you may want to read your post again and maybe edit it? Cause the way I read it as your calling me the asshole for giving you a suggestion on how to put I beams under your ranger...the question you asked?...:icon_confused:

it dont matter where ur t-case sits from the ground, its where the bottom of ur differentials will, simple as that, becuase u will be sittin on the diff long before the mud ever gets to the t-case.....

ok i see what ur saying so how is it ur ranger with 35s guessing u use d44s will hit the mud after my f250 with 37s and d60s,so maybe u have a 1 to 2 inches more clearance than me,big deal.i'm not here to argue who's truck is better i got my answer from another guy,so good luck with ur rangers.
