my 93 has the original shocks, needless to say there worn out. im going to replace them soon and i would like to hear yalls opinon on the diffrent brands of shocks. its 2wd 3l v6 stock height im lookn to spend less than 150 total, and im pretty sure i can replace em myself. so throw me some suggestions. it will be mostly for street driving and light offroad, like maybe a dirt road every so often.

thanks.:icon_thumby:

Bilstiens are excellent shocks but would run about 240. I would look into Monroe maybe.

I can't tell you what to buy, but I can recommend against what I put on my '97 2wd.

They were the cheapest shocks I could find locally- Gabriels, I think. Cost me under $100 for all four. (Actually, if memory serves, the fronts were the absolute bottom dollar ones- around $15/, but the rears are one step up because they were out of stock for the cheapest, and they might have been $25/...)

They did what I needed them to- the stockers were nine years old and had 220k miles on them, and were so bad the truck was becoming unsafe to drive. These fixed that- and they're still in there 40k miles later, and it's still safer than before. But "safe to drive" is the best thing I can say about them...I was in college and trying to save money, but in hindsight I wish I'd splurged a little and bought better ones.

i have gabriel g force on mine
a bit stiff but they are good for the price they have
if u go gabriel buy the white ones, the G-force
my brother just replaced his with monroe sensa-trac
awesome shocks!
if u drive on street mainly and want good comfort ride go for monroe
if u drive on dirt and carry heavy stuff go with gabriel

im putting monroe reflex's on my truck soon. i have them laying around, just havent got around to install them yet. i have thursday off. so maybe then. they were $137 shipped from amazon.

sweet thanks guys, i went to autozone and they had the gabriels they were cheap. i dont like buyn the bottom of the line things, most of the time its money well spent on the midrange stuff, ill check pro comp and def look at more monroes.

checked out them monroes they are really appealing from amazon, i can get all four for about 130, thats basically the same price as the gabriels from autozone. and from what you say, better. i wont replace them immediately but definitely by summer. thanks.

good! monroes are a good choice :icon_thumby:
are they sensa-trac?

if you really wanna save money. go on rockauto and write down all the part #'s. then search ebay and amazon. i was able to find 2 kyb gasajust shocks for the rear for $70shipped. then i could have got the other 2 on amazon for $80 or $90. i passed on it though. i had $75 in my amazon account, so i realy only paid $62 for all 4 monroe reflex shocks.

**EDIT**i just got home from work. so i decided to spray some pb blaster on all the nuts and bolts that are retaining the shocks. turns out the bottom half of the left rear shock is covered in oil. im guessing the shock seal is worn out. i guess its a good thing im replacing htem this week. ill post my thoughts on the upgrade later.**

sweet thanks definatly let me know.

and yes, honduras, they are the sensa tracs they would be the same price as the gabriels from autozone, they come with free shipping and are sold by amazon.com not some other store that sells through amazon so thats good too, it might be april when i get around too it, i gotta get my master cylinder fixed first, cuz i think its more important to stop the vehicle before i stop the bounce.

I bought rear sensatrak from Rockauto and front Sensatrak from Ebay.
Did not get around to installing them for a month.
All of them are junk .Push on the front or back and it bounces and rocks.
The freight prohibits sending them back.

I never had Sensatrak. Should they bounce and rock easily?

Oh ya, 1989 Ranger GT/2.3

i beleive the sensatracs are close to stock replacements. i wouldnt expect a big improvement in ride quality.

well i got them installed yesterday. took a good hour and a half for all 4. my initial impression of the reflex's are that iit is a improvement. its not a huge improvement. for that, i wouldve had to go with either some kyb gasajust or bilstein hd's. the ride is not as springy as it was. ill give it a week to settle in, then report back.
