Well I'm looking to take my truck wheeling shortly after i finish building it (89 ext cab, 3" body lift, 302 -> t18 -> 4:56 8.8" -> lock right locker -> 32x11.50x16 swamper tsl radials). its not any serious offorading. its just a typical northern nj sandpit. i mean, stock explorers and 4 runners are up there all the time, even with sucky ass tires. its not sugar sand or anything.

this video (while not ranger related) should give you an idea of the terrain.

we run 2wd sport quads here all the time, with no terrain issues.

im just curious how far you guys think i will get. i mean, i would love 4wd, but i got this truck for practically nothing so im just gonna run what i got. i shouldnt have an issue avoiding most of the mud over a foot deep. and the mud isnt really thick crap either, for example, this POS DODGE broke his front driveshaft (figures) in this one mud hole and was able to get out with 2wd only, on stock tires.

also, ill be looking to hit the surrounding trails. firm dirt, but a bunch of sizeable hills and good size rocks.

any input would be much appreciated.

wow, isnt it amazing how much crap i can type up just to ask a simple question hahaha

if you want to go a bit more hardcore.. just put a diff lock.. like a detroit locker.. that will improve your offroad capability in 2wd drastically. but remember to drive safe!

so then a "lock right" isnt a TRUE locker? If not, hows the driveability on the detroit?

good thing i didnt order anything yet haha! (but im getting close! i scouted out my explorer disc 8.8 today!)

no its atrue locker, i'm guessing he assumed you didn't have one. the lock rite and the detroit act and function the same

i cant speak for the detroit, but the lock-right is definatley a piece of cake to install.

and its priced VERY reasonably

as far as offroad-ability, you know there is only one way to find out.......
