Hey im workin on a 65' mustang and it had a 289 in it i was wondering since its a smaller v8 how easy would it be to swap into a 94 Ranger. Does anyone know if it would be easier than a 302. Or any Ranger cause im planning on buying another ranger for my street truck.

Externally it is the same as a 302.

289 is more difficult. You'll need to swap to a dual sump oil pan that's got a dipstick in the pan, the accessory bolt holes are slightly different in the 289 heads than the later 302's (roller 5.0) And it being a 65, it could also have a 5 bolt bell patterned block, the changeover to 6 bolt was sometime in the 64-65 model year.

The 289 is a great little engine but like what was said already its the same outside size as a 302/5.0 and it would be more work to install it then a late model 302/5.0 engine.

Thanks alot guys for the information! I think i will go with the 302.
