Tire Size
235
is actually on the door sticker of my 93 4wd ranger. Is there a new number system right? ( I don't spend much time learning about tires) What would be the equal size in new numbers if there is?
Thanks.

31x10.50R15 is a near-direct replacement if you can't find anything decent in a 265/75R15.

Thanks Junkie!

FWIW 265/75R15 is the new number system. 265 is the width of the tire in millimeters. 75 is the percentage of tread width that the sidewall equals (265 x 0.75 = 199 sidewall height). R means it is a radial tire, and 15 is the rim diameter.

31x10.5-15 is the old style tire measurements. 31" tall tire. 10.5" wide tire. 15" rim diameter.

I found Firestone tires around $105 each and a rebate for $70, so I may go with the size on the door sticker. The speedo is off about 3-4 mph, My Brother has 235/75/15 on his and they are smaller in dia then the 265. I'm not going to be an off road manic, most of the time it will be highway mileage.

The size on the door sticker is what the factory reccomends. The truck was designed with this tire size and will work best overall [compromise between mpg and power] with this size.

So Hey, I can ask another question here?
Since so many Rangers use 235/75/15 tires as a stock size what speedo gear for the A4ld do I need and where do I get it? This could save me some real cash in tire costs.

Going to a smaller size tire will help your torque, you will feel like it takes off better, better in town. However your hiway mileage will likely suffer. I know about the different tooth speedo gears but have no real life knowledge, maybe someone else can help.

Thanks Always, there are smaller 255 or 35.. (will check) tires on it now. Seems pretty good on gas so far!

mine came with 235/75 /15 tires and im currently running 255/70/15 tires. its nearly the same diameter but a wider tire. i do switch back to a set of 235's for winter.

update.. got the 265's OMG they are B I G tires LOL!

The 265/75-15 was an optional size and required the optional 4.10 axle ratio. If you downsize to 235's (which you didn't) then your gas mileage would likely be worse because the engine would be spinning more rpms.

My '94 came factory with 265/75R15s & 3.73 gears (I don't believe 4.10 was offered on any package that included that size tire until at least the '98 models, I know I would've got it if it was).

Hey Guys, well I've had the 265s on the beast a couple of weeks now. It's really good on gas! I've not tracked it but I just know it's way better then the 4.3 AWD Van I had.

A truck all "'jacked up" gets this old broad plenty attention too! Need steps or running boards! (short legs) LOL
