265/75 R15 optional tire?

Most times when a Ranger gets good mileage it is because the owner failed at mathematics.

Nope! Got nothing to do with sex. A factual matter about "guys" telling mileage of their vehicles. A vehicle that gets ONE mile better than exact same others is a rarity indeed.
Until you mentioned sex I hadn't looked at your nick. I didn't give the post with sex in mind but obviously you carry a chip on your shoulder. Sorry for you.

265/75R15 and 31x10.5R15 are same size tire for all intents and purposes.

10.5" = 267mm which is as close to 265mm as manufacturers would get with their sizing. Both are ~30½" tall.

Now, there is some difference in that 265s are usually "P" tire (passenger) while 31s are usually LT (light truck) and as a result 31s are a couple pounds heavier on average but most 31s are 'C' range so not that much harsher. Note: There is WAY more selection of 31s = lower cost.

The 31x10.5R15 or 265/75R15 fits in the spare holder fine when there is no air in it (aka flat) as it will deform to fit in the holder (I know from experience :( )

My Ranger getting good gas mileage means I was driving the speed limit. :)

I have a 99' Xcab 4x4 3.0l and I'm running 3.73 gears 5spd and 31x10.5x15s and still getting 16mpg or better in city. Yeah its a lil motor but if you actually drive it, its profomace isn't all that bad considering.

Got the same rig nick, 99 supercab 4x4, 5 speed, swapped a 4.0 in after the 3.0 spun a rod. Was getting 18 combined, with the 4.0 in the city I get 16.. Sometimes better or worse depending on how heavy my foot is..[emoji23] 31s btw.

I say 31s are fine for a ranger with a couple inches lift, going any bigger is not a good idea imho for street. The drivetrain can handle it fine, however 90s+ ford auto trannies are not the best.. Stick with the 5speed!!! Mazda tranny ain't the best either but they're a fine transmission if you don't harp on em

Yeah mines all stock suspension and I like how it sits with the 31s. I thought about doing the TT and shackles but I'm not in a hurry to beat this thing up. I got a killer deal and it's still to nice to destroy. Although I just got some Bilstein 5100 shocks off my brother that I will be installing this weekend. :)
