I have a 96 super cab 4x4 ranger with the 4 liter v6, standard transmision. I was wondering if it would handle a 24' travel trailer, not to make a habit of it but just to get it from the point of purchase to my place, approximately 250 miles. For the most part the road is fairly flat with only one short section with steep rises.

What is the weight?? I personally think 24' is too big for a ranger. Your truck has a tow capacity around probably 3500 pounds

You have to watch the weight and that you are towing a barn with a lawn tractor. If you get a crosswind or a gust from a transport it is going to sway that trailer and you with it.

I wouldn't. As mentioned, the potential for sway is high and that is a killer. I have a 24' trailer and I would not tow it with my '93 ext cab 4.0L.

Way too much trailer. The hills are not the problem. The problem is frontal area will beat you up pretty good above 50mph and as was stated, that trailer will sail your ass around like crazy.

But when you do it, do it at night during the times of low traffic and when the wind is less, and when the cops can't really see it. And have an equalizer hitch with the spring bars and a pair of friction-type sway control bars. And you are going to need some really good mirrors because that trailer is--WWIIDDEE.

If it's a good deal it's worth renting a U-Haul and towing it with that.

I figured it was probably a little much but figured I would ask since I have not had this ranger for long (or any pickup this size).

As Will said that trailer is wide. Most likely 96" (8 feet). Your ranger is not even close to that. Heck my F-350 needs the mirrors extended when towing my 32' travel trailer. It isn't a lot wider than my truck but just enough to make it difficult with regular mirrors.

napa sells the extended mirrors, they clip/strap on. It depends on the trailer. I had a 21' aerolite that was designed to be towed behind a small suv or a minivan...... weighed 2100 pounds and was serverly angled back in the front (I think the top was 3' shorter than the bottom) and I towed that behind a 91 Explorer..... with a stablizer bars and a weight distribution hitch and airbags on the back.......and I never went over 55 mph with it.

a few months ago I seen a travel trailer being towed behind a 4 door cherokee that had to be about 24 feet..... they were going really slow.
