I'm on my 4th. Ranger. Purchased my first one in 1987. Had a 1997 that I purchased new and got 12 years of good service out of it as my daily driver. I now have a 2008 and expect to get the same kind of service out of it. Just won't know what to do when I wear this one out. :)

<<<<<<<<<I know what you can do to it....look at my '89 Ranger on the left

If you get 12 years out of your 2008 that will put you around 2020...by that time maybe Ford will do a retro and bring back the Ranger and the Capri...or maybe the Tempo! I've had all three and I loved each one...

Move to another country. The Ranger has been on the way out for a while now here in the USA. We all know of this. No big deal. We will survive.

NO big deal? considering this is a ranger forum and the rangers are discontinued, we'll always be stuck discussing old news! I think that if anyone likes rangers enough to join a ranger based forum, it's probably a big deal haha.

Just sayin...

i say they bring the 4 door ranger over here instead of only having it over in eroupe and places over there

IMO the new one is too big. They need a smaller version closer to the '11s size. from what I hear the global ranger is about 90% the size of an f150.

I would loooovvvveeee a diesel too

I'm not to worried about it either. My next truck will most likely be an ecoboost F150 once they have a few years on the new drivetrain to sort out any bugs. For what I do, I've occasionally thought to myself "damn, if I had a little more truck I could pull this or haul this"... but never once have I encountered a situation where my ranger would outshine the F150. Maybe if I was trying to fit between two trees somewhere.... but I don't think I've ever needed to fit between two trees with my ranger that an F150 couldn't do. lol

Lets be honest, the current ranger is outdated. The IFS pussifies it as an off road vehicle, the 4.0L SOHC was once a gem but is now an underpowered heavy boat anchor compared to the competition, and we all know the reputation for the auto transmissions. lol, if Ford could build on the current rangers platform using a better suspension and fit any one of those cool new powertrains they have (300hp 3.7L or I4 and V6 ecoboost options) that would appeal to me.

And who knows, it is Ford after all. They do like to taunt and toy with the market. In a few years we may see another mid-sized pickup or really neat things happen with the half tons.

Or they are scared high school kids trying to figure out why their truck is stuck in drive... that was me back in '02 anyway when I joined. :icon_twisted:

I think I have already had my last RBV, I don't see myself getting another one if something happens to mine. It is a fun project but most what is making me do what I am doing is that I have had the thing for going on 12 years and have grown somewhat attached to it. And after set it up how I want it, get the powertrain dialed in, get the bodywork restored... and I am fairly well along the way, I don't think I would be all that gung-ho to start over on another one.

I have an F-150 as a dd, it could do (and usually does) everything I need to do aside from be an experimental playtoy (which doesn't bode well with a dd anyway)

I won't be getting rid of my 87. I plan to DD it until the day it gives up and hopefully restore it head to toe.

When it does go or if I decide to retire it, It'll be "replaced" with a Ecoboost F150 4x4 or a Focus hatchback. Maybe I'd get an extended cab Ranger but really I need more room. Especially with a growing family.

I think that if anything, these being discontinued just makes them a bit more special. Hopefully parts availability stays the same or improves.

I don't think the popularity of the ranger will change much. There are plenty fans of the ranger out there, so as long as the parts are in demand they will keep making them. Just like any popular classic car from the 60's you can still find a wide variety of parts for.

Yeah, but a 'Cuda has a lot more demand than a Ranger. Even '80's Mustangs have a TON more stuff available than a comparable year Ranger.

It will probably stay the same, I can't see much coming out than what we already have.
