Have you seen that show "vintage voltage"? These brit dudes have a shop where they do exactly that, convert old classics to EV, usualy for owners fed up with high maintenance and relatively low power of old ICE's. Anyways it kinda cheesy, but worth watching for ideas and entertaining results.

There's a show called Iron Resurrection about a garage that builds cars and their adventures. The owners wife and buddy seek out and buy cars for them to build. One time they visited a guy who converted a late 60's Mustang to full electric and she went for a ride in it. She asked if he thought it would do a burnout so he decked the throttle and her eyes got as big as saucers. The car had the equivalent of 800 hp. Not a practical daily driver but neither is the 9 second, 514 powered 70 Mustang one of my former techs built.

Not those particular shows, but have looked at some builds of both classic and newer vehicles. That mustang was probably one of them. All of those builds face the same challenges that I brought up. Not difficult for a shop with the resources to overcome those challenges. Like I said, paying someone to build it for me is not an option, and I don't have the same time and resources as one of those ships.

That is one area where EV shines. It might have the equivalent of 800hp, but it doesn't have to drive like it. A few key strokes can do a whole lot of tuning and performance adjustment if you know what you are doing (I don't).

Pretty sure no government (even in CA) told people that they had to get a Mullet, or platform shoes.

I read last week that in CA they are starting to no longer register trucks built before 2010. I have not yet been able to confirm this, but it is the way CA is trending.

The older trucks must have emissions retrofits done to reduce particulates, which could include replacement of the engine. The law was passed about 15 years ago and the state has provided financial assistance.

don't forget transponders/connected.
the govt will soon realize that EVs don't pay road use taxes on fuel so transponders will become mandatory to track miles.
if your transponders don't talk to the monitoring stations as you drive around unpleasant things will happen.
same goes for older vehicles as a way to purge them.

Yes, The power grid issue is a nationwide problem… but only California is going to break off and fall into the ocean from an earthquake.

It’s just a joke. I feel as though EVs have a place and are very useful to a lot of people. I could use one for my daily commute with no issues. My only problem is that my truck has 22K miles and K of those miles are towing a trailer on long trips.
My upcoming trip to Attica is about 800 miles. How far can I tow a trailer before recharging?
How much time would that add to the drive?
As it is now, I only stop for gas and it takes 12 hours.

EVs are just not ready for what I use my truck for 1/3 of the time. Now, a Powerboost f150 hybrid will work for me and that may be my next purchase.

An EV for a daily commute would be awesome. Just plug it in when you get home. No stopping at a gas station. My only concern with EVs has to do with long road trips. I like to throw the tent in the back of the truck and just drive through the middle of nowhere for a week. I'm not sure that can be done with an EV. Maybe in ten years that problem will be resolved.

Funny but there is actually a town inland called Mentone beach. There is no beach in sight, its far inland. They named it that because its along a fault line exactly where california would split off and sink if it were to from an earthquake, which would then make it beach front property! Lol now that's thinking ahead.

I have a solution to the commute problem. I’m getting a promotion to day shift supervisor as of the next board meeting (either tonight or 2 weeks from now). Along with the position I will get a county truck to drive to and from work… it will either be an F250 pick up or an F550 service truck. It’s not really environmentally friendly, but it won’t cost me anything to get to work.

I’ve read some in people doing the biodiesel thing. Many have to install a fuel system heater to prevent the fuel from gelling in cold weather.

The whole process is pretty involved to. It was interesting reading but sounds like a lot of work and expense. I’m sure the expense drops quickly once you are setup and producing.

I helps to know someone who owns a restaurant with a fryolator.
