2021 Ford Ranger FX4 TRS-3 Project Build

How hard is it to balance a Thunderer MT:

I also removed these damn plastic blocks behind the fender liner.

The 295 MTs rubbed on the fender liner and the ATs are slightly wider, so they had to go so I could tuck the liner in and make room.

Holy shit that's a lot of weight...

I wonder if they broke the tire back down and rotated the tire on the wheel?

That's trying to balance a bent steel wheel kinda weight.

I found a guy that will use the hammer on weights on the inside. I've lost a few of those stick on ones in the mud

The places I go for tires all use the hammer on kind. I've never seen them use the stick on type. With how tight the brake caliper clearance is to the rim on the 2011, I'm glad they don't.

The new tires look like diggers for sure, wonder how the lateral grip will be though.. they look like they'll be a little looser on sidehill/off camber stuff than the thunderers.

I will find out in May how well they perform. :derisive:

I went MTs and you went ATs haha. They never slowed me down.
Hey, my AT's have to be better than those bald ones you had. LOL.

I've always had this mentality that I had to have a MT on my off-road truck. This is a new approach for me.

Don't worry. They will.be bald by August haha.

That's what winches are for.

I got the LT295/70R/17 Maxxis RAZR AT's mounted today.

The guy mounting them said they only took 3/4 of an ounce to balance (so much better than the 28 ounces). I can't believe how much quieter these tires are. Way smoother too. When I left the tire shop, I pulled into a gas station to get gas, and I had become so use to the rumbling of the old tires that I felt like the truck had stalled, and I was floating in because it was to quiet and smooth. I couldn't resist hitting some gravel roads and a forest area to get them dirty and take a couple of pics.

I'm anxious to take them off-road.

I still get a little vibration up around 75 MPH, but it seems like it might be in the rear somewhere.

Don't forget to check the carrier bearing for the driveshaft while you are looking around for the potential cause of the vibration.
